Surf Sports

The Surf Sports aspect of the movement plays a significant role in ensuring that our members have the ability and passion to meet the changing environment within which we deliver our essential lifesaving service. It also gives members the opportunity to gain recognition for their sporting efforts at the same time.  Competitions are held at local, interstate and international locations.

BMD Northcliffe has a proud history in Surf Sports competition. We have been the undefeated Australian Champion Club since 2004 and the World Champion Club since 2008. Each year our competitors compete at local State and National surf carnivals and some international events. Getting involved in competition is fun and keeps you fit. You can train and compete in a range of areas and age groups from Juniors and Open to Masters levels, including swimming, ski paddling, board paddling, boat rowing, march past, pool rescue, champion lifesaver, R&R, beach sprinting, and surfing.

BMD Northcliffe's coaching program caters for all abilities from the novice to the elite. We believe our Coaching structure and program is professional and world class and has attracted numerous high profile athletes including Shannon Eckstein, Harriet Brown & Georgia Miller just to name a few. To be eligible to compete in surf lifesaving carnivals, you must be a financial, proficient member who has completed the required patrol hours for your category of membership. In most cases, this is 25 hours.
